The Communication and Development Studies program is pleased to welcome Dr. Lawrence Wood as our new Associate Director. Dr. Wood, an Assistant Professor in the School of Media Arts and Studies, has worked extensively with CommDev students for the past five years at Ohio University, and looks forward to becoming more involved with the program.
CommDev at Ohio University “is one of the best, if not the best, CommDev programs in the world, and it provides students with a range of tools that are applicable to working in the field of development,” he says. “It allows students to explore areas of specialization relating to their own, somewhat distinct interests. The diversity of students in the program is particularly unique as well.”
Dr. Wood spent five years teaching in Japan and traveled throughout much of Southeast Asia before earning a Ph.D. in geography at Penn State University. He says his experiences abroad influenced his interest in issues of development and globalization; however, he has also been involved at length in development projects in Appalachia.
This semester, first-year CommDev students are taking Dr. Wood’s course in Mass Communications Research. The department looks forward to his contribution both in and outside of the classroom.
