Financial Aid

Financial aid is awarded competitively on the basis of merit including previous academic performance or post graduation professional or other work experience, as well as geographical, cultural, linguistic and other forms of diversity.

Types of Aid:

• Graduate Assistant/Teaching Assistant
  A full-time award carries a stipend of $11,100 plus a tuition scholarship. The student is responsible for the quarterly fee. The recipient must register for 12 to 18 graduate credit hours and provide fifteen hours of work per week for the program. The student must maintain a 3.0 gpa.
  
• Graduate Recruitment Scholarship
  This partial scholarship plus an $1800 stipend will cover the yearly tuition fee. The student is responsible for the quarterly fee. The recipient must register for 15 to 18 graduate credit hours, and maintain a 3.0 gpa, and provide 80 hours of service per quarter.
• Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowships
  For the study of Arabic, Akan, Gikuyu, Somali, Sudanese Arabic, Swahili, Tigrinya and Wolof, these highly competitive awards are open to U.S. citizens or permanent residents and carry a stipend of $15,000 plus tuition scholarship and general fees. FLAS awards are given to M.A. and Ph.D. students with African language and area studies interests in any department.
